[14] LENT 2024 | We adore you, Christ, and praise you; because on your holy cross you have redeemed the world
‘All is completed’. And he lowered his head and gave up his spirit. The hour has come, and while it can seem the hour of his greatest humiliation and deepest suffering, Jesus can still say, All is completed. It is his hour of humiliation and suffering, but it is also the hour of his confirmation, the hour of his glory, when he is lifted up and proclaimed king of the Jews.
Today, Good Friday, we try hard to accompany Jesus on this journey, marked by deep suffering on all levels, yet also by fulfilment. We can never understand this mystery completely, and the only way to enter it is to let our gaze dwell on Jesus, as we open our hearts totally to what he is going through.
Celebrating the solemn Good Friday liturgy helps us understand better the meaning of this day, as we listen once more to the Passion narrative according to John and adore the cross, the tree of life, where the author of life shed his blood for me and for the rest of humanity, for the forgiveness of sin.
I will do my best to find time to be present in awe of this great mystery, of that grain of seed that dies to bear abundant fruit. My attention is wholly on Jesus as he undergoes his passion. I will return to those parts of the passion which touch me most, listen to music or look at a painting which help me express my deep feelings of sorrow and gratitude. The innocent one is humiliated and his very good deeds are used to deride and insult him, as he hangs on the Cross unable to defend himself.
I ask to feel sorrow and inner anguish for so much innocent suffering.
I contemplate too the suffering still present in our world, imploring God’s mercy, for, as St Paul says, He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Rom8:32)
As I listen to Jesus proclaim that all he sought is now completed, I pray for real trust in God in suffering.

This version of Adoramus was by Theodore Dubois Adoramus te (Latin, “We adore Thee”) is a stanza that is recited or sung mostly during the ritual of the Stations of the Cross. This prayer by St. Francis was inspired by the Antiphon: Adoramus te, Christe, et benedicimus tibi; quia per sanctam Crucem tuam redemisti mundi, which was part of the Liturgy for Good Friday.

[14] Ti adoriamo o Cristo e ti benediciamo, perché con la tua santa croce hai redento il mondo
‘Tutto è compiuto’. E, chinato il capo, consegnò lo spirito. E’ giunta l’ora e, mentre appare come l’ora della sua più grande umiliazione e più profonda sofferenza, Gesù riesce a dire: tutto è compiuto. E’ l’ora della sua umiliazione e della sua sofferenza, ma è anche l’ora della conferma, l’ora della sua Gloria, in cui viene sollevato da terra e proclamato re dei Giudei.
Oggi, venerdì santo, cerchiamo con impegno di accompagnare Gesù in questo percorso, segnato da profonda sofferenza a tutti i livelli, ma anche dalla pienezza. Non riusciremo mai a capire completamente questo mistero e l’unico modo per entrarci è lasciare che il nostro sguardo si posi su Gesù, aprendo completamente il nostro cuore a ciò che Lui sta vivendo.
Celebrare la solenne liturgia del venerdi santo ci aiuterà a capire meglio il significato di questo giorno, ascoltando ancora una volta il racconto della Passione secondo Giovanni e adorando la croce, l’albero della vita, su cui l’autore della vita ha versato il suo sangue per me e per tutta l’umanità, per il perdono dei peccati.
Farò del mio meglio per trovare il tempo di mettermi con venerazione alla presenza di questo grande mistero, del seme di grano che muore per dare frutto abbondante. La mia attenzione sarà totalmente rivolta a Gesù che si sottomette alla passione. Ritornerò sui versetti della passione che mi toccano maggiormente, ascolterò della musica o guarderò dei dipinti che mi aiutino ad esprimere i profondi sentimenti di dolore e gratitudine. L’innocente è umiliato e le sue opere buone sono usate come motivo per deriderlo ed insultarlo, mentre pende dalla croce incapace di difendersi.
Chiedo dolore e pena interiore per tanta sofferenza innocente.
Contemplo anche le sofferenze presenti nel nostro mondo, implorando la misericordia di Dio, perché come dice s. Paolo: Egli, che non ha risparmiato il proprio Figlio, ma lo ha consegnato per tutti noi, non ci donerà forse ogni cosa insieme a lui? (Rm 8,32)
Mentre ascolto Gesù proclamare che tutto ciò che ha voluto ora è compiuto, prego di avere fede in Dio quando mi troverò nella sofferenza.
Ti adoriamo, o Cristo, e ti benediciamo, perché con la tua santa croce hai redento il mondo.

[14] Të adhurojmë, o Krisht, dhe të bekojmë; sepse në kryqin tënd të shenjtë ke shpërblyer botën
“Gjithçka u kry”. Dhe uli kokën e dha shpirt. Ora ka ardhur, ndërsa mund të duket në orën e poshtërimit të tij më të madh dhe vuajtjes më të thellë, Jezusi ende mund të thotë: Gjithçka u kry. Është ora e tij e poshtërimit dhe vuajtjes, por është gjithashtu ora e konfirmimit të tij, ora e lavdisë së tij, kur ai u ngrit dhe u shpall mbret i judenjve.
Sot, e Premte e Madhe, ne përpiqemi shumë ta shoqërojmë Jezusin në këtë udhëtim, të rrethuar nga vuajtje të thella në të gjitha nivelet,por edhe nga përmbushja. Ne kurrë nuk mund ta kuptojmë plotësisht këtë mister dhe e vetmja mënyrë për të hyrë në të është duke e lëne vështrimin tonë të qëndrojë te Jezusi, teksa i hapim plotësisht zemrat tona për atë që ai po kalon.
Kremtimi i liturgjisë solemne të së Premtes së Madhe na ndihmon të kuptojmë më mirë domethenien e kësaj dite, ndërsa dëgjojmë edhe një herë rrëfimin ei Mundimit sipas Gjonit dhe adhurojme kryqin, pemën e jetës, ku autori i jetës derdhi gjakun e tij për mua dhe për pjesën tjetër të njerëzimit, për faljen e mëkatit.
