“Take care, take care, never to close your heart to anyone.” – St Pierre Favre SJ.
As we approach the feast day of St Pierre Favre, the lesser known of St Ignatius Loyola’s first companions, I will share some reflections on the life of this extraordinary Jesuit with a small introduction and some resources for you today, 31st July, the feast of St Ignatius.

Pierre Favre was born in Savoy, France, in 1506 and died in Rome at the age of 40. As a student in Paris,  for some years he shared a room with Ignatius and Francis Xavier, but he is much less well known than his two room-mates. In 2013 he was declared a saint by Pope Francis who has said that what strikes him most of Favre is ‘[his] dialogue with all,  even the most remote and even with his opponents; his simple piety, a certain naïveté perhaps, his being available straightaway, his careful interior discernment, the fact that he was a man capable of great and strong decisions but also capable of being so gentle and loving.’

Pietro Favre nacque in Savoia, Francia, nel 1506 e morì a Roma all’età di  40 anni. Quando era studente a Parigi, per diversi anni condivise una stanza con Ignazio e Francesco Saverio, ma è molto meno conosciuto dei suoi due compagni di stanza. Nel 2013 è stato proclamato santo da Papa Francesco, il quale ha detto che ciò che lo colpisce di più di  Favre è: “ il [suo] dialogare con tutti,  anche i più lontani, anche i suoi oppositori, la religiosità semplice, un certo essere naif forse, il suo essere immediatamente disponibile, il suo attento discernimeento interiore, il fatto che fosse un uomo capace di grandi e forti decisioni, ma anche capace di essere gentile ed amabile”. La sua festa si celebra il  2 di Agosto.

Pierre Favre ka lindur në Savoy të Francës në vitin 1506 dhe ka vdekur në Romë në moshën 40 vjeçare. Si student në Paris, për disa vite ai ndau një dhomë me Injacin dhe Francis Xavier, por ai është shumë më pak i njohur se dy shokët e tij të dhomës. Në vitin 2013 ai u shpall shenjt nga Papa Françesku, i cili ka thënë se çfarë e karakterizon  më së shumti Favren  është “dialogu i tij me të gjithë , madje edhe me  më të largëtit dhe me ata më kundërshtarët ”; devotshmëria e tij e thjeshtë, ndoshta me njëfarë naiviteti , aftesia e  tij për tu vënë në dispozicion menjëherë, shoshitja e kujdesshme e brendshme, bënte  që ai te ishte një njeri i aftë për vendime të mëdha dhe të forta, por gjithashtu edhe për të qenë kaq i butë dhe i dashur. ” Dita  e festës së tij  është në 2 gusht.
