[13] Go in Peace!

 This evening Jesus sits down for his last supper with his disciples, he washes their feet and tells them he did so to give them an example to imitate. He then gives them his body and blood as their food and drink, and tells them to do it themselves in memory of him.

Then he goes to the Garden to pray, and asks his closest friends to stay with him and pray, but they are too stressed to do that; instead they fall asleep. Yet when the guards come to arrest him with force, he is ready to face them.

I look in wonder at Jesus as he does all this, and I notice how his concern is for others and their needs. As people plan to eliminate him, he finds a way to remain with us, to continue giving himself for our sustenance.

I hear him speaking words of peace and reassurance to his dear friends, for he knows they will be confused and terrified by his arrest and crucifixion:  Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me… When I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. (Jn14: 1,3)

We witness the greatest struggle of his life: he is sorrowful unto death, and sweats blood in his deep anxiety. Yet he finds his peace in trusting his Father, who sends an angel to console him. He is able to say the most beautiful prayer ever, Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; remove this cup from me; yet, not what I want, but what you want. (Mk 14: 36)

The Eucharist is all this, and more. The more I enter into the mystery of God’s unbelievable love for us, for me, the more I understand what Jesus means when he told his disciples, Do this in memory of me. Don’t ever forget my love, find in it your deep peace, discover that your strength lies in letting God’s will become your own. I also discover that this peace, my deepest desire, is a grace I need to ask for with insistence, for it needs a heart purified of self-love, open to God and to others.

No wonder the last words we hear in the liturgy of the Eucharist are, Go in peace! Become peacemakers, true children of the God of peace, and there you will find true peace.

13. Andate in Pace!

Questa sera Gesù si siede per la sua ultima cena con i discepoli, lava loro i piedi e dice di averlo fatto per dar loro un esempio da imitare. Poi dona loro il proprio corpo e il proprio sangue come cibo e bevanda e dice loro di fare lo stesso in memoria di lui.

Dopo Gesù va nel Giardino a pregare e chiede ai suoi amici più intimi di rimanere con lui e di vegliare, ma loro sono troppo scossi per riuscirci e cadono invece addormentati. Tuttavia quando le guardie vengono ad arrestarlo con la forza, lui è pronto ad affrontarli.

Contemplo con meraviglia Gesù mentre fa tutto ciò e noto come si preoccupi degli altri e di ciò che serve a loro. Mentre pianificano come eliminarlo, lui trova un modo per rimanere con noi, per continuare a donarsi, per il nostro sostentamento.

Lo ascolto mentre pronuncia parole di pace e rassicura i suoi cari amici, perché sa che saranno confusi e terrorizzati per il suo arresto e la sua crocefissione:  Non sia turbato il vostro cuore. Abbiate fede in Dio e abbiate fede anche in me… quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato un posto, ritornerò e vi prenderò con me, perché siate anche voi dove sono io. (Gv14, 1;3)

Assistiamo alla lotta più terribile della sua vita: Gesù è triste fino alla morte e suda sangue per la profonda angoscia. Tuttavia egli trova pace nell’affidarsi al Padre, che manda un angelo a consolarlo. E riesce a pronunciare la più bella preghiera di sempre: Abba, Padre, tutto è possibile a te; allontana da me questo calice! Però non ciò che io voglio, ma ciò che vuoi tu. (Mc 14, 36)

L’Eucarestia è tutto ciò e molto di più. Più mi addentro nel mistero dell’amore incredibile di Dio per noi, per me, più comprendo cosa Gesù intende quando dice ai suoi discepoli Fate questo in memoria di me: non scordatevi mai del mio amore, trovate la pace profonda in esso, scoprite che la vostra forza sta nel lasciare che la volontà di Dio diventi la vostra.

Scopro anche che questa pace, il mio più profondo desiderio, è una grazia che ho bisogno di chiedere con insistenza, perché richiede un cuore purificato dall’egoismo, aperto a Dio e agli altri.

Non ci meravigli che le ultime parole che ascoltiamo nella liturgia eucaristica siano: Andate in pace! Diventate operatori di pace, veri figli del Dio della pace e troverete la pace vera.

13. Shko në Paqe!

Këtë mbrëmje Jezusi ulet për darkën e tij të fundit me dishepujt , ua lan këmbët duke u treguar se në këtë mënyrë duhet të veprojnë edhe ata . Më pas ai u jep trupin dhe gjakun e tij si ushqim dhe pije dhe u thotë që ta bëjnë gjithmonë në pëkujtim të tij.

Pastaj shkon në Kopësht për t’u lutur dhe u kërkon miqëve të tij më të ngushtë që të qëndrojnë me të në lutje, por ata gjenden në shqetesim të madh për ta bërë këtë; në vend të kësaj ata bien në gjumë. Tashmë, kur rojet vijnë për ta arrestuar me forcë, ai është gati të përballet me ta.

E shikoj duke u mrekulluar Jezusin teksa i bën të gjitha këto, dhe vërej se si ai shqetësohet për të tjerët dhe nevojat e tyre. Ndërsa njerëzit po planifikojnë ta eliminojnë, ai gjen një mënyrë për të qëndruar me ne, për të vazhduar të ofrojë veten si ushqimin për ne.

E dëgjoj duke u thënë fjalë paqeje dhe sigurie miqve të tij të dashur, sepse e di se ata do të hutohen dhe do të tmerrohen nga arrestimi dhe kryqëzimi i tij: Mos tu shqetësohen zemrat tuaja; besoni në Zotin, besoni edhe në mua… Kur të shkoj do t’ju përgatis një vend, do të kthehem dhe do t’ju marr pranë vetes, që aty ku jam unë, të jeni edhe ju. (Gjoni 14:1,3)

Ne jemi dëshmitarë të betejes më të madhe të jetës së tij: ai është i pikëlluar deri në vdekje dhe djersit gjak nën ankth të thellë. Megjithatë, ai gjen paqe duke iu besuar Atit të tij, i cili dërgon një engjëll për ta ngushëlluar. Eshtë në gjendje të thotë lutjen më të bukur të thënë ndonjëherë, Abba, O Atë, për ty çdo gjë është e mundur; largoje këtë kelk mundimesh nga unë; megjithatë, jo ashtu si dua unë, por atë ti dëshironi. (Mk 14:36)

Eukaristia është e gjitha kjo, dhe më shumë. Sa më shumë që hyj në misterin e dashurisë së pabesueshme të Zotit për ne,për mua, aq më shumë e kuptoj se çfarë do të thotë Jezusi kur u kërkon dishepujve të tij: Bëjeni këtë në përkujtimin tim. Mos e harro kurrë dashurinë time, gjeje në të paqen tënde të thellë, zbulo se forca jote qëndron në atë që të lejosh që vullneti i Zotit të bëhet në ty. Zbuloj gjithashtu se kjo paqe,që është dëshira ime më e thellë, është një hir që duhet ta kërkoj me këmbëngulje, sepse ndjej nevojën për një zemër të pastruar nga dashuria për veten, të hapur ndaj Zotit dhe ndaj të tjerëve.

Nuk është çudi që fjalët e fundit që dëgjojmë në liturgjinë e Eukaristisë janë: Shko në paqe! Bëhuni paqebërës, fëmijë të vërtetë të Zotit të paqes ,atje do të gjeni paqen e vërtetë.
