Be Reconciled [10] – The Eucharist, the other sacrament of reconciliation

‘This is my blood, shed for the forgiveness of sins…Do this in memory of me’.  These words were first proclaimed by Jesus at the Last Supper and are repeated by the priest at every Eucharist. They show that, like the sacrament of penance, the Eucharist too is closely linked to reconciliation.

The Eucharist is a foretaste of the Kingdom, where everyone is welcome, whatever their condition and situation: rich and poor, old and young, sick or healthy, whatever their race, sexual orientation,  social standing. All are welcome and treated as equals. Like at the multiplication of loaves, and the wedding at Cana, all find all they need, and much more.

The world we live in is very different from the Eucharistic assembly, but taking part in the Eucharist shows that we are committed to move as close as we can to construct this kind of reconciled world. Yet we are also reminded that we cannot do this relying on our own forces, for we are weak and ourselves in need of mercy and reconciliation.

At the very start of the mass we are invited to confess we are not perfect, but sinners in need of God’s mercy; this request for mercy is repeated very often throughout the mass, even in the Gloria, our hymn of praise. Just before receiving communion we ask for the gift of peace, and admit we are unworthy to receive Jesus, yet we do so because we know we can rely on his word to be cured.

But the Eucharist is not only about receiving God’s mercy, it is also a call and a commitment to spread it abroad. We are reminded of Jesus’ command to do this in memory of him: this memory is obviously not only the rite  but all that it means, especially the commitment to participate in his mission of reconciling the world.

The last words of the priest are, Go in peace,  and they enjoin on us the duty to take what we have received during the liturgy to the world outside. We have received the peace Jesus promised to his followers, so that we are now empowered to face our divided and sometimes hostile world as ministers of reconciliation.

The Eucharist is much more than a personal devotion. It is a proclamation of our faith in the reconciling Christ. When we eat this bread and drink this cup we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.

L’ Eucarestia, l’altro sacramento della riconciliazione

‘Questo è il mio sangue, versato in remissione dei peccati… Fate questo in memoria di me’.  Queste parole, proclamate per la prima volta da Gesù nell’Ultima Cena e ripetute dai sacerdoti in ogni Eucarestia, mostrano che anche l’Eucarestia, come il sacramento della penitenza, è intimamente collegata alla riconciliazione.

L’Eucarestia è una pregustazione del Regno, nella quale tutti sono benvenuti, qualunque sia la loro condizione e situazione: ricchi e poveri, vecchi e giovani, malati o sani, di qualunque razza, sesso, orientamento e condizione sociale. Tutti sono benvenuti e trattati nello stesso modo. Come alla moltiplicazione dei pani e alle nozze di Cana, tutti trovano il necessario e molto di più.

Il mondo in cui viviamo è assai differente dall’assemblea eucaristica, ma partecipando all’Eucarestia mostriamo volerci impegnare alla costruzione di un mondo il più possible riconciliato, secondo quel modello. Ma nell’Eucarestia ci viene ricordato anche che non possiamo riuscirci contando sulle nostre forze, perché siamo deboli e anche noi bisognosi di misericordia e di riconciliazione.

All’inizio della messa siamo invitati a confessare di non essere perfetti, ma peccatori bisognosi della misericordia di Dio. Questa richiesta di misericordia è ripetuta più volte durante la messa, anche nel Gloria, che è il nostro inno di lode. Subito prima di ricevere la comunione chiediamo il dono della pace e ammettiamo di essere indegni di ricevere Gesù, ma lo facciamo perché sappiamo di poter contare sulla sua parola per essere salvati.

Tuttavia l’Eucarestia non è solo ricevere la misericordia di Dio, ma anche richiesta e impegno per diffonderla. Ci viene ricordato il comando di Gesù di fare questo in memoria di Lui: questa memoria, ovviamente, non riguarda solo il rito, ma tutto ciò che esso significa, in modo particolare l’impegno a partecipare alla sua missione di riconciliare il mondo.

Le ultime parole del sacerdote: Andate in pace, ci ingiungono di portare ciò che abbiamo ricevuto durante la liturgia al mondo. Abbiamo ricevuto la pace che Gesù ha promesso ai suoi discepoli, ora siamo rafforzati e possiamo affrontare il nostro mondo diviso e talvolta ostile come ministri di riconciliazione.

L’Eucarestia è molto di più di una devozione personale. E’ proclamazione della nostra fede in Cristo che riconcilia. Ogni volta che mangiamo di questo pane e che beviamo a questo calice annunziamo la tua morte, Signore, in attesa della tua venuta.

Eukaristia, sakramenti tjetër i pajtimit

“Ky është gjaku im, i derdhur për faljen e mëkateve … Bëjeni  këtë në perkujtimin tim”. Këto fjalë u shpallën fillimisht nga Jezusi në Darkën e Fundit dhe përsëriten nga prifti në çdo Eukaristi. Ato tregojnë se ashtu si sakramenti i pendimit, edhe Eukaristia është e lidhur ngushtë me pajtimin.

Eukaristia është një shije e mirë e Mbretërisë, ku të gjithë janë të mirëpritur, pavarësisht nga gjendja dhe situata e tyre: të pasur apo të varfër, të moshuar apo të rinj, të sëmurë ose të shëndetshëm, pavarësisht racës, orientimit seksual, pozitës shoqërore. Të gjithë janë të mirëpritur dhe trajtohen si të barabartë. Si në shumimin e bukëve ashtu dhe në dasmë në Kanë, të gjitha gjejnë gjithçka që u nevojitet, madje dhe shumë më tepër.

Bota në të cilën ne jetojmë është shumë e ndryshme nga asambleja eukaristike, por pjesëmarrja në Eukaristi tregon se ne jemi të përkushtuar të shkojme sa më afër asaj ku të kontribuojmë për të  ndërtuar këtë lloj bote të pajtuar. Megjithatë ne gjithashtu kujtohemi se nuk mund ta bëjmë këtë duke u mbështetur në forcat tona, sepse ne jemi të dobët dhe vetë kemi nevojë për mëshirë dhe pajtim.

Në fillim të meshës ne jemi të ftuar të rrëfejmë se nuk jemi të përsosur, por mëkatarë që kanë nevojë për mëshirën e Zotit; kjo kërkesë për mëshirë përsëritet shumë shpesh përgjatë gjithë meshës, madje edhe në Gloria, himni ynë i lavdërimit. Pak para marrjes së kungimit ne kërkojmë dhuratën e paqes dhe pranojmë se jemi të padenjë për të marrë Jezusin, megjithatë e bëjmë këtë sepse e dimë se mund të mbështetemi ne fjalen e tij për të na shëruar.

Por Eukaristia nuk ka të bëjë vetëm me marrjen e mëshirës së Zotit vetëm për vete, por është gjithashtu një thirrje dhe një angazhim për ta përhapur atë jashtë, tek t commitment tjeret. Ne kujtojmë thënjen e Jezusit për ta bërë këtë në përkujtim të Tij: kjo kujtesë është padyshim jo vetëm riti ,por gjithçka, që do të thotë, veçanërisht angazhimi për të marrë pjesë në misionin e tij për pajtimin e botës.

Fjalët e fundit të priftit janë, “Shkoni në paqe” dhe ata bashkohen me ne në detyrën për të transmetuar në botën që na rrethon ,atë që kemi marrë gjatë liturgjisë. Ne kemi marrë paqen që Jezusi u premtoi pasuesve të tij, kështu që tani jemi të fuqizuar të përballemi me botën tonë të përçarë dhe ndonjëherë armiqësore si ministra të pajtimit.

Eukaristia është shumë më tepër sesa një devocion personal. Eshtë një shpallje e besimit tonë në Krishtin pajtuesin tonë. Kur e hamë këtë bukë dhe e pimë këtë kupë, ne shpallim vdekjen tënde, o Zot, derisa të kthehesh përsëri.
