[12] LENT 2024 | Let it be done to me according to your will
Today we enter Holy Week, the week when we celebrate the most important truths of our faith, the passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus.
Some of us can find this intensity somewhat confusing – too much happening and too much emotion in such a short time, especially while the rest of our life keeps its usual rhythm.
For Jesus too these must have been confusing, highly emotional days. The gospels draw a picture of increasing tension around and inside Jesus as he understands that his hour had come and that one of his closest friends is planning to betray him to the authorities.
His hour has now come. This was what he came for, and this is when we will best understand who he is and what he wants us to know about his Father. Yet this realization fills him with anxiety. Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. (Jn 12: 27)
We need to let our gaze dwell on him lovingly and at length, as we seek to accompany him in these dramatic days. Yet, suffering is never an easy key to decipher, so we need the help of someone to accompany us on this journey of discovery who Jesus was.
Who better than Mary to have as our companion through this holy week? She knows Jesus and his heart better than anybody else, and she is the closest to him even as he deals with his anxiety and then with his suffering and death.
One day she had told the angel, Let it be done to me. I am the handmaid of the Lord. How often she must have asked what the angel’s words must have meant. At every step she needed to renew her commitment to seek and do the Lord’s will, whatever the cost.
Her desire to let God be God in her life was fulfilled during this week, albeit in ways she had never imagined. At the end of this week she embraced her risen son, but only after she had watched him being insulted and abused, condemned to a criminal’s death.
The medieval hymn, Stabat Mater, can help us enter this journey with Mary. It sings of Mary’s pain under the cross, but then moves to ask her to intercede for us, to imprint Jesus’ wounds in our heart, and to give us the grace of sharing her pain and that of her Son.

[12] Avvenga per me secondo il tuo desiderio
Oggi entriamo nella settimana santa, la settimana in cui celebriamo le verità più importanti della nostra fede: la passione, la morte e resurrezione di nostro Signore Gesù.
Alcuni di noi potrebbero trovare questa densità alquanto disorientante: troppi avvenimenti e troppe emozioni in così breve tempo, specialmente perché il resto della nostra vita procede col ritmo usuale.
Anche per Gesù questi giorni devono essere stati disorientanti e densi di emozioni. I vangeli ci dipingono un quadro di crescente tensione attorno e dentro Gesù, che capisce che è venuta la sua ora e che uno dei suoi amici più intimi sta progettando di consegnarlo alle autorità.
Ora è giunta la sua ora. E’ venuto per questo ed è in questa ora che capiamo davvero chi è Lui e ciò che desidera rivelarci del Padre. Tuttavia la realizzazione di ciò lo riempie di ansia. Adesso l’anima mia è turbata; che cosa dirò? Padre, salvami da quest’ora? Ma proprio per questo sono giunto a quest’ora! (Gv 12, 27)
Abbiamo bisogno di fissare lo sguardo su di Lui con amore e a lungo per accompagnarlo in questi giorni drammatici. Tuttavia la sofferenza non è mai facile da decifrare e abbiamo bosogno che qualcuno ci aiuti in questo viaggio alla scoperta di chi è Gesù.
Chi meglio di Maria può accompagnarci in questa settimana santa? Lei conosce Gesù e il suo cuore meglio di chiunque altro ed è la persona che gli è più vicina, anche quando Lui sperimenta l’angoscia e poi la sofferenza e la morte.
Un giorno aveva detto all’angelo. Ecco la serva del Signore. Avvenga per me secondo la tua parola. Chissà quante volte lei deve essersi chiesta cosa significavano le parole dell’angelo. Continuamente doveva rinnovare il suo affidamento per cercare e fare ciò che il Signore desiderava, qualunque ne fosse il prezzo.
Il suo desiderio di lasciare che Dio fosse Dio nella sua vita ha trovato compimento in questa settimana, anche se nel modo che lei non avrebbe mai immaginato. Al termine di questa settimana ha abbracciato suo figlio risorto, ma solo dopo averlo visto insultato e maltrattato, condannato alla morte dei criminali.
L’inno medioevale Stabat Mater può aiutarci ad entrare in questo viaggio con Maria. Canta il dolore di Maria sotto la croce, ma poi le chiede di intercedere per noi perché le ferite di Gesù siano impresse nei nostri cuori e ci sia concessa la grazia di condividere il suo dolore e quello di suo figlio.

[12] Le të bëhet sipas vullnetit tënd
Sot hyjmë në Javën e Shenjtë, javën kur kremtojmë të vërtetat më të rëndësishme të besimit tonë, mundimin, vdekjen dhe ringjalljen e Zotit tonë Jezus.
Disa prej nesh mund ta gjejnë këtë intensitet disi konfuz – shumë gjera që ndodhin dhe shumë emocione në një kohë kaq të shkurtër, veçanërisht kur pjesa tjetër e jetës sonë mban ritmin e saj të zakonshëm.
Edhe për Jezusin këto duhet të kenë qenë ditë konfuze dhe shumë emocionale. Ungjijtë vizatojnë një pamje të tensionit në rritje rreth dhe brenda Jezusit, ndërsa ai kupton se ora e tij kishte ardhur dhe se një nga miqtë e tij më të ngushtë po planifikon ta tradhtojë atë te autoritetet.
Ora e tij tani ka ardhur. Kjo ishte ajo për të cilën ai erdhi, dhe këtu do të kuptojmë më mirë se kush është ai dhe çfarë dëshiron që ne të dimë për Atin e tij. Megjithatë ky realizim e mbush atë me ankth. Tani shpirti im është i shqetësuar dhe çfarë të them? “O Atë, më shpëto nga kjo orë”?Porse, pikërisht për këtë erdha në këtë orë. (Gjoni 12:27)
Duhet ta lëmë vështrimin tonë të qëndrojë tek ai me dashuri dhe pa kushtezim, ndërsa kërkojmë ta shoqërojmë në këto ditë dramatike. Megjithatë, vuajtja nuk është kurrë një çelës i lehtë për t’u deshifruar, kështu që ne kemi nevojë për ndihmën e dikujt që të na shoqërojë në këtë udhëtim zbulimi se kush ishte Jezusi.
Kush më mirë se Maria do te ishte si shoqëruese gjatë kësaj jave të shenjtë? Ajo e njeh Jezusin dhe zemrën e tij më mirë se kushdo tjetër dhe është më e afërta me të, edhe pse përballet me ankthin e tij dhe më pas me vuajtjet dhe vdekjen e tij.
Një ditë ajo i kishte thënë engjëllit: U bëfte ne mua. Unë jam shërbëtorja e Zotit. Sa shpesh ajo duhet të ketë pyetur se çfarë kuptimi duhet të kenë fjalët e engjëllit. Në çdo hap asaj i duhej të ripërtërinte zotimin e saj për të kërkuar dhe bërë vullnetin e Zotit, pavarësisht nga kostoja.
Dëshira e saj për ta lënë Zotin të jetë Zot në jetën e saj u përmbush gjatë kësaj jave, megjithëse në mënyra që ajo kurrë nuk e kishte imagjinuar. Në fund të kësaj jave ajo përqafoi djalin e saj të ringjallur, por vetëm pasi e kishte parë duke u fyer dhe abuzuar, duke e dënuar me vdekjen e një krimineli.
Himni mesjetar, Stabat Mater, mund të na ndihmojë të hyjmë në këtë udhëtim me Marinë. Këndon për dhimbjen e Marisë nën kryq, por më pas lëviz për t’i kërkuar asaj të ndërmjetësojë për ne, të ngulitë plagët e Jezusit në zemrën tonë dhe të na japë hirin për të ndarë dhimbjen e saj dhe atë të Birit të saj.
